About the festival
UNM (Ung Nordisk Musik) is a joint organisation spanning the Nordic and Baltic countries, whose mission is to promote the work of young music makers and sound artists by producing a yearly festival. Founded in 1946, making it one of the oldest festivals of its kind, UNM has been a meeting place for creators under the age of 31 to exchange thoughts, musical ideas and establish new connections with others from across Northern Europe.
Five works from each Nordic country (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland), and two works from each of the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) will be selected in this year’s call for works. The selection of works is made by independent juries representing each participating country.
Theme ARCHIVE
For the 80th anniversary with the theme ARCHIVE, the festival will be focusing on the past and future of UNM by showcasing your favourite works from your compositional archive. During the festival year in 2026 we aim to be able to accommodate dramaturgical works. For this we will co-produce the works with Scenatet.
We will also offer a residency program and invite to a UNM conference during the festival.
We encourage all those interested to apply regardless of race, religion, gender, background, education, or artistic style.
For the festival we aim to make sure, to the extent of our abilities, that the venues and lectures being accessible for everyone including individuals with disabilities.
UNM can accommodate all kinds of works such as; sound art, electronic/electroacoustic, chamber to larger settings, vocal, installations and more.

UNM Residency 2026
For the 2026 festival we are very excited to announce a residency collaboration with the ensemble NEKO3.

NEKO3 is a Copenhagen-based experimental trio consisting of pianist/performer Fei Nie and two percussionists/performers Lorenzo Colombo and Kalle Hakosalo.

From each country one composer will be selected for the residency program and one combined from the Baltic countries through the separate open call for the residency.
Selected works will be workshopped in Copenhagen with the composers, ensemble members and mentors Jeppe Just Christensen and Søs Gunver Ryberg during the 26th to 30th of May 2026 and showcased as a part of the festival program in August 2026.

UNM Conference 2026
As a part of UNM 80. anniversary celebration we are presenting a UNM Conference— as a “career package” for young music creators that consists of a series of lectures and workshops.
Between 11 - 15 August we invite different guests from across the music industry who will be talking about:

Most of the festival will take place in the heart of Copenhagen. We have The Royal Danish Academy of Music as a collaborator. Several concerts will take place there, where we can also accommodate 3D works for up to 48 loudspeakers. We also have an outdoor venue. Other venues include KoncertKirken, Literaturhaus and more.
Terms and Conditions
1. Applicants must be born on or after 1 January 1995. Applicants must be Swedish citizens or live in Sweden.
2. All works must be anonymous. Please ensure that names, dedications and names of musicians/performers (i.e. personal information) are removed from all scores, videos/media, etc. Don't forget copyright text and metadata. Various solutions to "hide" names in PDFs usually work poorly. As it is important that the name does not accidentally appear, we recommend editing the score, removing the name, and saving again as a PDF.
3. Applicants will submit personal information separate from the work itself, which will only be used by UNM Boards for administrative purposes. The information will be available to the board for up to two years and can be removed at any time by request of the applicant after the results have been announced.
4. Applicants can participate in a total of five UNM festivals regardless of which country they represent, so if you have already been selected for UNM five times, you cannot be selected again. If an applicant can represent two countries (e.g. be a Swedish citizen but live in Denmark) they are only allowed to apply for one country, otherwise both applications will be disqualified.
5. Applicants cannot be selected two years in a row. Therefore you cannot be selected for the festival in Copenhagen 2026 if you were selected for Uusima 2025.
6. The works are selected by a jury for each specific country. UNM applies gender quotas and at the festival in 2026 at least 2 out of 5 Swedish works will be created by non-men. For more information on how each country implements quotas -contact your country's board.
7. Each applicant can send in a maximum of two submissions - call for works and call for artist-in-residence included. I.e., you may apply with up to two works, or one work and one submission for the residency. In case an applicant is selected for both the residency and with their submitted work, they may choose if they want to participate in the residency or with their selected work.
8. A total of 5 works will be selected in the call for works. In addition to this, runner-ups will be announced. If the performance of a selected work is canceled, a replacement work will be selected from among the runner-ups. Attendance is expected from the artist selected to participate in the festival throughout the festival week. The performance of a selected work may be canceled if the selected artist is unable to attend the festival.
9. UNM commits to producing a performance or exhibition of all selected works, however, we have provided more information on next year’s specific festival ensembles above.
10. The application deadline is 23/6/2025 After that, the application form will be closed.
11. UNM verifies the applicants’ eligibility and checks the attachments sent through the application form before submitting them to the jury. If necessary, UNM may ask the applicant to amend or supplement their application. It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit the requested changes or documents by the end of the application period. After the application period ends, applications cannot be changed or amended, so please submit your application early enough.

Application
In order to apply, you must upload and share your work via Google Drive, as well as fill in an application form. The process is outlined step by step below:
• For each work you wish to submit (maximum two), a Google Drive folder must be made for each work. There you upload one or both of the following options:
- Score or other graphic presentation of the work
- Recording of the work. Use compressed formats like .MP3 or .MP4. Formats
such as WAV, .AIFF, .FLAC and .MOV are not accepted.
For traditionally notated music that lacks a recording, please include a sound file (mock-up) from a notation software (preferably with e.g. note performer) or DAW such as Logic /Cubase.
• Give each folder the same name as the title of your work. Do not include e.g. "To UNM 2024" or similar, in order to facilitate the administrative work for the board and jury. Do not use a pseudonym, leave it blank.
• Share the folder with unmsverige@gmail.com

Om festivalen
UNM (Ung Nordisk Musik) är en gemensam organisation för de nordiska och baltiska länderna, vars uppdrag är att främja unga tonsättare och ljudkonstnärers arbete genom att producera en årlig festival. Festivalen grundades 1946 och är därmed en av de äldsta i sitt slag. UNM har sedan dess varit en mötesplats för skapare under 31 år att utbyta tankar, musikaliska idéer och knyta nya kontakter med andra från hela Nordeuropa.
Fem verk från varje nordiskt land (Sverige, Norge, Danmark, Finland och Island) och två verk från varje baltiskt land (Estland, Lettland och Litauen) kommer att väljas ut i årets Open Call. Urvalet görs av oberoende jurygrupper som företräder respektive deltagande land.
Tema ARCHIVE
Inför 80-årsjubileet med temat ARCHIVE, kommer festivalen att fokusera på UNM:s dåtid och framtid genom att visa upp dina favoritverk ur ditt kompositionsarkiv. Under festivalåret 2026 siktar vi på att kunna inkludera dramaturgiska verk. Dessa kommer att samproduceras tillsammans med Scenatet.
Vi kommer även att erbjuda ett residensprogram samt bjuda in till en UNM-konferens under festivalen.
Vi uppmuntrar alla att söka oavsett etnicitet, religion, kön, bakgrund, utbildning eller konstnärlig stil.
Festivalen strävar efter att i så stor utsträckning som möjligt göra lokaler och föreläsningar tillgängliga för alla, inklusive personer med funktionsnedsättningar.
UNM välkomnar alla typer av verk såsom ljudkonst, elektronisk/elektroakustisk musik, kammarensemble till större sättning, vokalverk, installationer med mera.

UNM Residency 2026
Inför festivalen 2026 är vi glada att kunna meddela ett residenssamarbete med ensemblen NEKO3.

De utvalda verken kommer att arbetas fram i workshopformat i Köpenhamn tillsammans med tonsättarna, ensemblens medlemmar samt mentorerna Jeppe Just Christensen och Søs Gunver Ryberg under perioden 26–30 maj 2026, och presenteras som en del av festivalprogrammet i augusti 2026.

Som en del av UNM:s 80-årsjubileum arrangerar vi en UNM-konferens – ett slags "karriärpaket" för unga musikskapare, som består av föreläsningar och workshops.

Större delen av festivalen kommer att äga rum i hjärtat av Köpenhamn. Vi samarbetar med Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium, där flera konserter kommer att hållas. Här finns också möjlighet att framföra 3D-verk med upp till 48 högtalare. Vi har även en utomhusscen, samt andra lokaler såsom KoncertKirken, Literaturhaus och fler.
Villkor
1. Sökande ska vara födda 1 januari 1995 eller senare. Sökande måste vara svensk medborgare eller bo i Sverige.
2. Alla verk måste vara anonyma. Se till att namn, tillängnader och namn på musiker/utförare (alltså personlig information) är borttagna från alla partitur, videos/media, osv. Glöm ej copyright-text och metadata. Olika lösningar för att “dölja” namn i PDFer brukar fungera dåligt. Då det är viktigt att namnet inte råkar synas av misstag rekommenderar vi att redigera partituret, ta bort namn, och spara på nytt som PDF.
3. Sökande kommer att skicka personlig information separerat från själva verket, vilket endast kommer att användas av UNM:s styrelser i administrativa syften. Informationen kommer att finnas tillgänglig för styrelsen i upp till två år och kan när som helst tas bort på efterfrågan av sökande efter att resultaten har blivit tillkännagivna.
4. Sökande kan delta i totalt fem UNM festivaler oavsett vilket land de representerar, om du redan blivit uttagen till UNM fem gånger kan du alltså inte bli uttagen igen. Om en sökande kan representera två länder (t ex. vara svensk medborgare men bor i Danmark) är det endast tillåtet att söka för ett land, annars kommer båda ansökningarna att diskvalificeras.
5. Sökande kan inte bli uttagna två år i rad. Du kan alltså inte bli uttagen till festivalen i Köpenhamn 2026 om du blev uttagen till Uusima 2025.
6. Verken väljs ut av en jury för varje specifikt land. UNM applicerar könskvotering och inför festivalen 2026 kommer minst 2 av 5 svenska verk vara skapade av icke-män. För mer information om hur varje land implementerar kvotering - kontakta ditt lands styrelse.
7. Varje sökande kan skicka in max två ansökningar - Call for Works och Call for Artist-in-Residence inkluderat. D.v.s. att du kan ansöka med upp till två verk (Call for Works), eller ett verk (Call for Works) och ett projekt (Call for Artist-in-Residence). Om du blir vald till både residenset och med ett insänt verk så kan du välja om du vill delta i residenset eller med det uttagna verket.
8. Totalt kommer 5 verk att väljas ut i denna Open Call.
Utöver detta kommer även reservverk att utses. Om framförandet av ett utvalt verk ställs in, kommer ett ersättningsverk att väljas bland reservverken. Närvaro förväntas av den tonsättare som blivit utvald att delta under hela festivalveckan. Framförandet av ett utvalt verk kan komma att ställas in om den utvalda tonsättare inte kan närvara vid festivalen.
9. UNM åtar sig att producera ett framförande eller en utställning av alla utvalda verk. Ovan finnes dock mer information om nästa års specifika festivalensembler.
10. Deadline för ansökan är 23 juni 2025 kl 23.59 CET. Verk som inkommer efter deadline kommer inte att tas i beaktning.
11. UNM verifierar sökandes behörighet och granskar de bilagor som skickats in via ansökningsformuläret innan de vidarebefordras till juryn. Vid behov kan UNM be den sökande att komplettera eller justera sin ansökan. Det är den sökandes ansvar att skicka in de begärda ändringarna eller dokumenten innan ansökningsperioden avslutas. Efter att ansökningsperioden är slut kan ansökningar inte ändras eller kompletteras, så vänligen skicka in din ansökan i god tid.

• Döp vardera mapp till verkets titel. Inkludera inte t ex “Till UNM 2024” eller liknande, detta för att underlätta det administrativa arbetet för styrelse och jury. Använd ej pseudonym utan lämna det blankt.
